Phoenix lock service
Car key replacement in Phoenix
Locking the key inside is cheap. Losing the last key you own is the costly version. Fixr's range for a replacement car key is $70 to $250, and Kelley Blue Book prices a transponder key at $125 to $250 and a push-to-start smart key at $200 to $400.

What happens at the car
You start by sending the exact model and year plus the VIN, which is printed on the registration and visible at the base of the windshield. When the locksmith arrives, expect them to look at your ID and the registration before doing anything. Then they cut a blade, either from the key code tied to the VIN or by decoding the door lock, and pair the new chip or fob to the car's computer. The last step matters most if the old key is out there somewhere: the lost key gets deleted from the car's memory so it can no longer start the engine.

Make two while the van is there
Cloning a spare from a working key costs much less than building one from scratch after the last key is gone. Valley drivers lose keys in a lot of places: a Camelback summit trail, a spring training lawn in Scottsdale or Goodyear, a pontoon at Saguaro Lake. One spare in a kitchen drawer turns the next loss into a short errand.
When the car and key were taken together
Once the car is recovered, have the stolen key wiped from its memory before you drive it much, and have the ignition and door locks looked at. Car stolen or keys taken.
Questions people in Phoenix ask
How long does it take?
Cutting and pairing a key for a common model usually takes less than an hour after the locksmith arrives. Rare models, or parts that must be ordered, can push it to another day.
Do I have to tow the car to the dealer?
Usually you don't. A mobile locksmith does the work where the car is parked. Only certain newer or luxury models are dealer-only.
