Safe opening and repair in Phoenix

A forgotten combination or a keypad that went dark rarely means the safe is finished. Fixr's range for opening by manipulation is $140 to $200. Drilling runs $200 to $250 on a fire safe and $350 to $450 on a money safe.

Things to try before anyone comes

On an electronic safe, a dead battery is the usual culprit, and many models have contacts on the outside of the keypad so you can power it without opening the door. Next, hunt for the override key; it often ends up taped inside the owner's manual or in the drawer of whoever bought the safe. Then find the brand and serial number, usually on a sticker or plate. Some manufacturers will release the combination or a replacement key once you prove ownership.

Ask whether they do safes

Plenty of locksmiths stick to doors and cars. Safe work is a specialty of its own. Ask whether they open safes by manipulation, and if drilling turns out to be necessary, who repairs the hole and at what price.

Showing it's yours

Expect to prove you have the right to open it. A purchase receipt works for your own safe; for a parent's safe after a death, bring the estate paperwork naming you. More on proof.

Questions people in Phoenix ask

Will opening the safe destroy it?

Manipulation leaves the safe fully working. Drilling leaves a hole that can usually be patched, though on an inexpensive fire safe the repair may cost more than the safe.
