Key fob replacement and programming in Phoenix
With the right programmer, a mobile locksmith can pair a new remote to most cars in a parking space and delete the one that went missing. Fixr's range for programming a fob or transponder is $50 to $200. Kelley Blue Book puts a push-to-start smart key at $200 to $400.

Rule out the coin cell
Before paying for anything, swap the battery. Fob batteries are small coin cells, and Valley summers are hard on them: Sky Harbor averaged 120 days a year at 100°F or more in the shade from 2016 to 2025 (NOAA), and a remote left on a dashboard or in a cup holder cooks well past that. A fob whose range shrinks a little more every week from June on is usually a battery that costs a few dollars. In the meantime, most fobs hide a metal blade that opens the driver's door, and many push-button cars will start if you hold the fob right against the start button.

When the car needs a new pairing
Programming is the answer when the fob is lost or stolen, when you want a second one, when a new battery didn't revive it, or when it went through the washing machine or into the pool.

Questions people in Phoenix ask
Can a locksmith reprogram my key fob?
On most cars, yes. A mobile locksmith pairs the new remote and deletes lost ones. Some recent and luxury models are dealer-only, so text the exact model first and you will know before anyone drives over.
Can I buy a fob online and have it programmed?
Sometimes. Many locksmiths won't program a remote they didn't supply, or won't stand behind it, since cheap online fobs fail often. Ask before you order one.
